Homeward Bound 5K

Join TC West Senior High for their first ever Homeward Bound 5k to raise money and help support the local homeless population! 

The Community Outreach Advisory at West Senior High is putting on a 5K Race and Fun Walk and calling it Homeward Bound! The event will take place Sunday, May 18th at West Middle School. Registration starts at 1:00pm with the race and fun walk beginning at 2:30pm. The event will feature local musical acts and play host to community volunteer leaders and organizations.

All proceeds from the race/fun-run/walk go to Pete’s Place, a teen’s-only homeless shelter in the area, which is part of Goodwill Inn and Third Level Crisis Center. Families are encouraged to participate with either the race or fun walk. Parents who want to race can bring their children and childcare will be provided. Food will also be available for purchase and refreshments will be provided for those taking part in the race.

The Community Outreach Advisory was formed by four teachers and a group of students who were selected for their leadership skills in order to organize and sponsor an event that benefits the Traverse City Area community. As a unit, we surveyed, researched and chose an area that most needed volunteer help. We then broke up into committees to organize the event, using only students and community groups to fund, sponsor, and create the race.
